Position Objective:

    Deseret Digital Media (DDM) is a newly created, online division of Deseret Management Corporation that will manage the digital assets of DesertNews.com, KSL.com, Mormontimes.com, LDSChurchNews.com, DesertBook.com, and Gospelink.com. The sites collectively reach over 4 million unique users with over 200 million impressions each month. The organization has a uniquely spiritual mission and seeks to be strategic to its Church ownership.

    POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Lead Web Developer will be responsible for development, design, and maintenance of DeseretBook.com and Gospelink.com. The candidate would become a part of the DeseretBook.com team; collaboration and teamwork are a must. There are and will continue to be new and expanding products in the Deseret Book portfolio as well as other DDM online products.
    The ideal candidate needs to have experience with high traffic web sites, excellent communication skills, and is willing and excited to learn new skills and technologies.
    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Work with Deseret Book stakeholders on needs and design requirements from Web Marketing/Sales, Support Center, Buyers, Publishing/Wholesale, etc. in the continued web development and data architecture creation for DeseretBook.com
    • Perform code development life cycle from design, create, review, test and deployment
    • Maintenance of existing enterprise web applications
    • Primary responsibility is back end development, but applicants must have some front end experience working with designer on HTML implementation
    • Ability to work independently in addition to collaborative work on large projects with team members, including users, administrators, designers, and other developers
    • On-call 24/7 in a "highly available" environment



Position Requirements:

    • Experience developing with MVC frameworks using Rails and OOP
    • Ability to administer web deployments on Linux with Apache
    • Strong relational database experience (PostgreSQL a plus)
    • Familiarity with PCI security standard and web security best practices
    • Understanding of ecommerce design principles for usability and SEO
    • Experience in HTML, CSS, XML, SOAP, JavaScript, AJAX
    • Team player with a positive attitude who enjoys working with others
    • Strategic thinker with analytical and operational skills
    • Goal-oriented person with high personal drive, integrity and energy
    • BS in Computer Science or related field preferred
    • 2 or more years of professional experience with Rails
    •
    In addition to these requirements, the Lead Web Developer should be able to think strategically about the objectives for Deseret Digital Media. He or she should also be motivated by the organization’s broader mission and be able to develop relationships with all members of the technology team.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
    • Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
    • Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.
    • Lift, move, and carry up to 50 pounds on occasion.
