Fool's Gold (PG-13) Doug Steve Status: In Theaters Listen to Review This February True Love Takes a Dive.

Synopsis:
The running joke in Hollywood is that Mathew McConaughey will try to stage any scene so he can take his shirt off…..well, with that in mind, the new film; “Fools Gold” is his perfect vehicle. McConaughey plays treasure hunter, Benn Finnegan, who finds a clue to the whereabouts of a legendary treasure…problem is, he’s funded by and owes a ton of money to a notorious rapper who steals the clue and tries to kill Benn. Meanwhile we find that Benn is married to the lovely Tess, played by Kate Hudson, who is in the process of divorcing him. Although Tess is a world class treasure hunter herself, she is now a steward aboard the yacht of Go-zillionaire, Nigel Honeycutt who has agreed to make a detour in his cruise so Tess can attend her divorce decree hearing. Ahh, that’s when she finds out that her estranged spouse has indeed made a startling discovery and the lure of the hunt, at least temporarily, brings them back together along with funding from Nigel who sees an opportunity to bond with his flighty daughter, Gemma, who is always making the pages of the tabloids. “Fools Gold” is no “National Treasure.” It tries, but McConaughey’s just too goofy and the sub plot with the rapper, Bigg Bunny and his inept thugs falls flat. Donald Sutherland adds some weight, but even he’s off and I’ve heard him do great accents before, but I just never bought that he was upper-class English. Kate Hudson is the highlight of the movie but even her sparkle and charm can’t salvage, “Fools Gold.” Just 2 ½ stars for “Fools Gold”
