Synopsis:
The Mist is vintage Stephen Kings, the story of a freakish storm that has the locals scrambling in its aftermath to clean up property, deal with power outages and many head to the local store to stock up on supplies. But, what caused the storm and what has been unleashed in its wake? Apparently there is a military base up the mountain where very secretive things unfold and when a mysterious mist engulfs the town, sirens start to wail, emergency vehicles start to roll and its always a bad sign when a screaming, bleeding man runs into the store where youre shopping yelling to stay inside and lock the door. Whats happening? Well, speculation starts to run wild.
Thomas Jane stars as David Drayton who ends up being the voice of reason in the disaster while, an over-the-top Marcia Gay Harden as Mrs. Carmody, whips a good number of the grocery store refugees into a fanatic religious frenzy. Fear and isolation begins to take its toll and soon, lines are drawn between those who see this as the end of days and those who just want to survive and figure it all out. Where all of this leads is truly disturbing with ending scenes that knock you back in your seat. The Mist succumbs to some melodrama, but overall delivers chilling and truly frightening scenarios.
If I had seen this movie when I was a kid, Id still be having nightmares, The Mist is rated R and Im giving it 2 1/2 stars.
