Day 56: Sunday, May 30, 1847 (May 30, 1997)

No travel for the pioneers of 1847 on this May 30th. Then, it was a Sunday and more than any other Sabbath since their departure, was stictly observed as a quiet day of worship and introspection. Most abstained from food and fasted. In one meeting they shared feelings, in another, the sacrament. Then the camp's leaders came here, to a secluded spot among these bluffs.

William Clayton:

"...WE CLOTHED OURSELVES IN THE PRIESTLY GARMENTS AND OFFERED UP PRAYER TO GOD FOR OURSELVES, THIS CAMP AND ALL PERTAINING TO IT. WE ALL FELT WELL AND GLAD FOR THIS PRIVILEGE."

A sacred day of recommitment, a time to prepare spiritually for the second half of their journey.
