Day 33: Friday, May 7, 1847 (May 7, 1997)

Did Brigham Young's loss of his spyglass the day before put him in a sour mood, this May 7th in 1847? During a meeting he severely chastised Erastus Snow who'd been responsible for herding the cows the day before. Brigham lost his spyglass while trying to keep the cattle away from the great herds of buffalo.

Erastus Snow:

"...IT IS THE FIRST I HAVE HAD SINCE I HAVE BEEN IN THIS CHURCH, WHICH IS NEARLY 15 YEARS, AND I HOPE IT MAY LAST ME FIFTEEN YEARS TO COME."

A somber pioneer company moved only a few miles this day along the Platte. And they rejoiced in the afternoon when Orrin Porter Rockwell returned after finding the valuable spyglass back on the trail.
