Day 77: Sunday, June 20, 1847 (June 20, 1997)

Before breakfast, the pioneers left their campsite early this June 20, 1847. Even though it was Sunday, they chose to travel and get away from the "poisonous" water and uncomfortable surroundings. Along the trail they passed Willow Springs where future pioneer companies would camp.

Then they ascended this hill, called "Prospect Hill" and got a good view of the surrounding country.

Heber C. Kimball:

"THE VIEW FROM THIS HILL IS ONE OF ROMANTIC BEAUTY, WHICH CANNOT EASILY BE SURPASSED AND AS PRESIDENT YOUNG REMARKED WOULD BE A SPLENDID PLACE FOR A SUMMER MANSION...."

In the distance they could see the Sweetwater River, but it would be another day before they reached it.
