It's called old Fort Casper, a replica of the fort built in 1858. But eleven years before that, Brigham Young and his vangaard party of pioneers camped near here as they prepared to cross the North Platte River.
In 1847, June 13th was a Sunday, so they spent the morning in a meeting, where they heard sermons from Brigham Young, Orson Pratt and Heber C. Kimball.
Heber C. Kimball:
"I FELT WELL WHILE SPEAKING TO THE BRETHREN AND HAVE A GREAT DESIRE TO DO THEM GOOD AND TO SEE THEM UNITED AND FAITHFUL."
Although the sabbath, after the meeting they went to work, hauling logs and building rafts so they could ferry across the river. It would take them four more days to do it.
