Day 67: Thursday, June 10, 1847 (June 10, 1997)

As the pioneers began their journey this June 10, 1847, they crossed LaPrele Creek. Just upstream, several in the camp visited this natural wonder, known today as Ayers Natural Bridge.

William Clayton:

"IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THIS TUNNEL HAS BEEN FORMED BY SOME STRANGE FEAT OF NATURE."

For the second straight day, they made good time, 17-3/4 miles, rejoining the North Platte River once again after 77-miles of overland travel.

They camped on the west bank of Deer Creek, a half mile from where it empties into the Platte. Here, a decade later, Brigham Young would established a waystation for other pioneers. But today it is the Wyoming town of Glenrock.
