The pioneers would travel far this June 9, 1847, 19-1/4 miles. Their journey took them through a valley of red sand and rock to a campsite beside LaPrele Creek--in several journals, the prettiest camp yet.
Along the way they met a group of traders who told the pioneers they'd left a boat 70-miles away on the Platte. The Mormons could have it if they got there before the Missouri emigrants. Brigham sent 19-wagons and 49 men ahead. Meantime, the pioneers wrote letters for the mountaineers to take East with them.
