Day 61: Friday, June 4, 1847 (June 4, 1997)

At 4:40 in the morning of June 4, 1847, the pioneers resumed ferrying wagons across the North Platte River near Fort Laramie. By noon, they were headed west again, this time following the long established and well-used Oregon Trail.

Thomas Bullock:

"THE SCENERY IS ALTOGETHER DIFFERENT TO WHAT WE HAVE HAD OF LATE--BOLD RAGGED BLUFFS, SPECKLED WITH CEDAR AND PINE TREES."

Their numbers had changed, too. Four men headed south to help a group of pioneers in Pueblo. While 17 men, women and children had joined Brigham Young's company.

Thomas Bullock:

"IN THE EVENING I VISITED THE ENTIRE CAMP AND FOUND 148 MEN, 8 WOMEN, 5 CHILDREN AND 79 WAGONS."
