What a road for the pioneers on this July 20, 1847. The main group crossed East Canyon creek at least eleven times.
Levi Jackman:
"THE MOUNTAINS ON BOTH SIDES HAVE BEEN SO HIGH AND THE RAVINES SO CROOKED THAT WE COULD SEE BUT A SHORT DISTANCE AHEAD AND IT LOOKED AS THOUGH WE WERE SHUT UP IN A GULCH WITHOUT ANY CHANCE OF ESCAPE."
Only one place with enough room for a camp. It came to be known as Mormon Flat, just a few miles down the road from today's Jeremy Ranch Golf Course. From here, they would ascend Big Mountain.
William Clayton:
"WE HAVE PASSED THROUGH SOME SMALL PATCHES TODAY WHERE A FEW HOUSE LOGS MIGHT BE CUT, BUT THIS IS TRULY A WILD LOOKING PLACE."
