Day 106: Monday, July 19, 1847 (July 19, 1997)

The main group of pioneers forded the Weber River this July 19, 1847 near today's town of Henefer. Then proceeded west over what some called, the worst road of the entire journey. They camped on East Canyon Creek now under the waters of East Canyon Reservoir.

Feeling somewhat better, but still ailing, Brigham Young and a dozen wagons lagged behind several miles. While ahead, Orson Pratt climbed Big Mountain and got his first view of the Salt Lake Valley.

Orson Pratt:

"ON THE SOUTHWEST WE COULD SEE AN EXTENSIVE LEVEL PRAIRIE, SOME FEW MILES DISTANT, WHICH WE THOUGHT MUST BE NEAR THE LAKE."

He also saw that the road ahead was steep and very rough.
