Day 104: Saturday, July 17, 1847 (July 17, 1997)

The main body of pioneers of 1847 reached the Weber River, this July 17th. But they didn't go much farther.

Norton Jacob:

"WE PROCEEDED 2 1/2 MILES WHEN BROTHER KIMBALL DIRECTED US TO CAMP AS THE PRESIDENT WAS SO SICK HE COULD NOT TRAVEL."

So, they camped near here on the river's east bank where they would remain through the next day, which was a Sunday. Meantime, Orson Pratt's advance party continued west in the area of today's East Canyon reservoir. Pratt went out looking for a better route.

Orson Pratt:

"I WAS SOON SATISFIED THAT WE HAD TAKEN THE BEST AND ONLY PRACTICAL ROUTE."

Back with Brigham's main group, several concerned about their ailing leader's health once again climbed a high mountain to pray.
