Day 100: Tuesday, July 13, 1847 (July 13, 1997)

With Brigham Young's illness, the pioneers separated into two groups this July 13, 1847. Brigham Young and a few others remained here at the Needles camp. While the main group camped 9 miles ahead at a place called Cache Cave.

Heber C. Kimball went ahead, with instructions from Brigham Young. During a camp meeting, Orson Pratt received an assignment.

Orson Pratt:

"THOSE OF THE TWELVE PRESENT DIRECTED ME TO TAKE 23 WAGONS AND 42 MEN AND PROCEED ON THE JOURNEY AND ENDEAVOR TO FIND MR. REID'S ROUTE ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS."

Now the pioneer campany would be physically divided as the settlers moved toward their Great Salt Lake valley destination.
