Today, it is Granger, Wyoming. In 1847, this is where the pioneers forded Ham's Fork on July 6th. A couple of miles farther, they forded yet another stream, known then and now as Black's Fork. They traveled more than 18-miles without stopping this day, passing the formation known as Church Butte. It was hot, windy and dusty.
Wilford Woodruff:
"MAN AND BEAST, HARNESS AND WAGONS WERE ALL COVERED WITH DUST."
Yet, amidst the dust and the general barrenness of the landscape, some found beauty.
William Clayton:
"THE PRAIRIES ARE LINED WITH BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS OF VARIOUS COLORS--CHIEFLY BLUE, RED AND YELLOW, WHICH HAVE A RICH APPEARANCE AND WOULD SERVE TO ADORN AND BEAUTIFY AN EASTERN FLOWER GARDEN."
