In 1847, April 25th was a Sunday. For the Mormon Pioneers heading west and camped near here, a day of rest.
The order of the camp: no fishing, hunting or labor on Sunday except such as is actually necessary. So, they awakened to the sound of the camp bugle at 5 a.m. to care for their cattle and do the required chores.
Howard Egan:
"ALL WAS HARMONY, PEACE AND LOVE AND AN HOLY STILLNESS PREVAILED THROUGHOUT THE DAY. THE PRINCIPLE SOUNDS HEARD WERE THE TINKLING OF THE COW BELLS AND THE SCREAMS OF WILD GEESE AS THEY FLEW PAST OUR CAMP."
In late afternoon, the camp gathered near Brigham Young's wagon for a worship service. It lasted until sundown.
