Day 9: Tuesday, April 13, 1847 (April 13, 1997)

Only nine days into the journey, the main group of pioneers spent April 13, 1847 in camp, cleaning and repairing wagons.

They set up three blacksmith forges and Charles Alfred Harper made two new axeltrees for Heber C. Kimball's wagon.

But the main events that Tuesday took place back in Winter Quarters, where Brigham Young and the Twelve Apostles gathered for one last meeting.

John Taylor arrived during the evening with some scientific instruments from England. He also brought 2,269 dollars in cash. The Apostles thanked God in prayer because they desparately needed the money to help finance the Mormon migration of 1847.
