On this 4th day of their trek west, the main body of pioneers camped beside Papillion Creek, just ten miles west of Winter Quarters. Here, some spent the day hunting. Their only success, though...a small squirrel.
A company of pioneers arrived from Mississippi in seven wagons. Among them, Oscar Crosby and Hark Lay, two of the three African Americans who would make the journey west.
But the wagons would go no farther this day. Instead, Brigham Young returned again to Winter Quarters to meet Parley P. Pratt, who arrived from a mission to England.
And yes, a sure sign of spring. Thomas Bullock tells us he killed a mosquito.
