Day 3: Wednesday, April 7, 1847 (April 7, 1997)

With general conference behind them, on April 7, 1847 four more small groups left Winter Quarters at different times. Wilford Woodruff led one. Orson Pratt another.

Eventually, this day Brigham Young joined them. Thomas Bullock Thomas Bullock didn't leave until late afternoon:

THOMAS BULLOCK JOURNAL: "...ABOUT 5 P.M. MADE READY AND STARTED BY THE NEW AND OLD BURYING GROUNDS."

HERE AT THE CEMETERY TODAY IN FLORENCE, NEBRASKA IS A MONUMENT TO THOSE PIONEERS WHO WOULD NEVER MAKE IT TO THE VALLEY OF THE GREAT SALT LAKE.

Little did they realize on that 3rd day of their trek west that by 1869, at least six-thousand immigrants would ultimately die along the trail.
