Orem Web Company Ranks 19th

Jan. 19, 2000

An Orem company and it's network of websites is beating out competition like CNN, Barnes and Noble, AT&T, Toys-R-Us when it comes to website use. News Specialist Scott Light explains.

The company is MyFamily.Com, Incorporated. It's a privately held company that has three websites: Myfamily.com, Ancestry.com, and Familyhistory.com.

Together, the websites get more activity that those other companies we mentioned. In fact, the company has been ranked 19th in website activity nationwide.

Talk about unbelievable growth. Last year, MyFamily.com got about 10 million page views a month. A page view is similar to a 'hit.' So, 10 million last December '98. December '99.. 136 million.

David McGinn/CFO: "YOU WOULD GO INTO MY FAMILY.COM ON THE INTERNET AND CREATE A WEBSITE AND YOU ACTUALLY HAVE THE NAMES, E-MAILS, ADDRESSES AND BIRTHDATES OF FAMILY MEMBERS. THE SERVICE THEN AUTOMATICALLY INVITES THEM THROUGH E-MAIL TO JOIN THE SITE."

The cost is free on Myfamily.com. Obviously, the company makes its money from advertisers.

It wouldn't release sales or revenue numbers but rest assured, with this much website activity, the advertisers are calling.

The company is also starting a major advertising campaign in magazines like People.

By the way, I mentioned Myfamily.com was ranked 19th. You want to guess the number one? Yahoo.
