Walking in Traffic
From the National Highway Transportation Safety Admin.

Summer is a time for warm temperatures and plenty of people outdoors.
Unfortunately it's also a time for increased traffic-- and tempers.
News Specialist Stacey Butler has more on the dangerous combination.
For most Utahns who have to fight traffic to and from work, it's hard not to
get frustrated. But this is the season pedestrians are also on city streets in
force and police have a warning.
It's easy to get frustrated when you're behind the wheel.
But when you're a pedestrian, the last thing you want is a frustrated driver
bearing down on you.
In the last month, four people have been struck by a car while walking or
bicycling on city streets.
Yesterday a 33 year old man on his bicycle was killed when he was hit by a
car on Redwood Road and 21st South.
The day before that, a six-year old girl ran across the street in the
Harvard-Yale area to meet her sister when a car struck her. She was killed.
These accidents are nothing new, but police say the numbers are going up.
Getting stuck in rush hour traffic in the heat of the day can be maddening.
But police warn with so many out walking, running and biking, now is no
time to drive aggressively.
