New Road Projects

The summer road construction season is getting into full swing, and that could mean some delays for drivers on I-15 in Utah County this weekend.

News Specialist Sam Penrod explains.

Two separate projects start this weekend in Utah County that will affect drivers at night.

The first project will be to cut up the top levels of asphalt and then repave it, on about a ten mile stretch of the road, between the Alpine Highland exit and American Fork's 500 East exit.

The work is scheduled to take several weeks, but UDOT says it will add life to the freeway and extend the time before the entire road will have to be rebuilt.

The second paving project will be between Provo's Center Street and Springville.

This stretch of the freeway was partially rebuilt and widened and finished last fall.

Now, road crews are adding the final driving surface to the road. The project should be completed by the end of June.

Springville/Provo Center Street Project
From UDOT

Paving work on Interstate 15 between the North Springville interchange (Exit 265) and Provo Center Street.

All paving work will be done from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

  • May 28. The northbound on-ramp to Interstate 15 from North Springville and the exit lane to University Avenue will be temporarily closed.

  • May 29 - 31. Construction crews will pave the on-ramps to northbound I-15 from University Avenue and 1860 South. Each ramp may be closed temporarily during the work. Only one ramp will be closed each night.

  • May 31 - June 6. Northbound motorists will be restricted to two lanes while construction workers pave each travel lane and shoulders between the North Springville interchange and Provo Center Street. Work will start on the east side of northbound I-15 and move to the west.

All on and off-ramps will remain open. Motorists should expect moderate travel delays.

Work schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather, equipment problems or emergency situations

State Street Project/Salt Lake County

In Salt Lake County, several projects continue. One is along State Street, from 6400 South to 3300 South.

Paving is complete, but resurfacing continues. UDOT says to expect occasional lane closures and minor delays, from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm Monday through Saturday. This project should be completed in mid-June.
