Tornado Hits Downtown Salt Lake City

    August 26 update

    The City needs $100,000 for its tree replacement fund. As of August 26, it had raised about $37,000. If you would like to donate, call the City's Needline at (801) 535-6333.

    The City plans to replace destroyed street trees by this fall. To report a fallen tree or to select a replacement tree, citizens can call 972-7809.

    The City has waived fees on 47 construction permits valued at $200,000. The Permit desk will be open until 8:00 p.m. for the next few weeks.

    People with losses should contact the Disaster Recovery Center in operation at 309 East 100 South, phone number, 257-7000 or (800) 462-7000.


    FEMA reminds people with disaster-related losses to call their insurance company first, then register with FEMA by calling 1-800-462-9029, or visiting the FEMA web site.


    The Red Cross is seeking volunteers and donations to help in the aftermath of the deadly tornado.
