Seismologists say a small earthquake in Utah County last night is probably not a precursor to something bigger.
But folks in the Lehi area were sure shaken by that tremor.
This earthquake measured 3.4 in magnitude--enough to shake the ice cubes in your iced tea.
And to most people, that's enough to get your attention.
State seismologists at the University of Utah recorded the quake around 8:30 p.m. The epicenter was two miles northwest of Saratoga Springs and five miles southwest of Lehi.
"The shock was reported by many close to the epicenter area, and we did not receive any reports of damage," said seismologist Walter Arabasz.
Just after the quake, numerous residents called the Utah County Sheriff's Office wanting to know what happened.
Arabasz said the last quake in Utah County was reported within the same seismic belt in 1992; it was a 4.2 magnitude quake.
Sue Nava, seismograph network manager, said most of the 13 reports of this quake came from Lehi, Saratoga Springs, Cedar Hills and Eagle Mountain; one report coming from Draper in Salt Lake County.
Nava said her office is always looking for reports of quakes from Utah residents. People can now report feeling earthquakes on the center's Web site.
