Family Search Web Site
Sources

(From the L.D.S. Church)

The FamilySearch Internet Genealogy Service searches the following sources in looking for family history information:

  • Family History Library Catalog™.
Catalog of the items in the Family History Library's collection. Many of these items can be ordered for use at thousands of Family History Centers worldwide.

  • Family History SourceGuide™.
Automated file (also available on compact disc) containing hundreds of guides published by the Church on how to do family history research.

  • Web Sites.
The Internet has tens of thousands of web sites that contain family history information. Church volunteers evaluate and categorize these sites so the FamilySearch Internet Genealogy Service can refer interested persons to pertinent sites.

  • Resource Files.
The Church has produced several collections of family history information. As these collections are made available on the Internet, the FamilySearch Internet Genealogy Service will search them and identify relevant information. The first of the resource files to be included will be the International Genealogical Index and Ancestral File.
