Orrin Grant Hatch was
born on March 22, 1934 to
Jesse and Helen Hatch.
Senator Hatch married the
former Elaine Hansen of
Newton, Utah. They have six children and 17
grandchildren.
He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1959, and continued on to the University of Pittsburgh Law School on full scholarship. He worked his way through school, and in 1962, he was awarded his Juris Doctorate,
graduating with honors.
He practiced law in Pennsylvania and then in Utah. In 1976, he was elected to the U.S. Senate from Utah, defeating incumbent Democratic Senator Frank E. Moss.
Hatch currently serves as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He is also on the Senate Finance Committe, the Select Committee on Intelligence, and
the Committee on Indian Affairs.
Hatch is also an author and songwriter.
