Important changes for downtown Salt Lake commuters!
Starting Tuesday, if you're headed southbound on I-15 from downtown, you must use the new 500 South on-ramp. It opens at 6:00 a.m. and replaces the temporary southbound on-ramp on 400 South.
But, if you're headed northbound on I-15 from downtown, you should continue to use the 400 South on-ramp.
I-15 project director John Bourne says while the temporary 400 South southbound on-ramp has served motorists well, "The new 500 South ramp is faster and more efficient, and will make a significant difference during the afternoon outbound commute."
The 600 North southbound on-ramp, closed two weeks ago for finish work, will also reopen April 10.
These openings were originally scheduled for Monday but were delayed due to bad weather.
In order to prepare for Tuesday's openings, the freeway will be closed tonight at 10:00 p.m., northbound from 53rd South to 600 North, and from 1000 North south to the I-215 junction.

April 6, 2001--
Interstate 15 will remain open this weekend, because of the rainy weather.
Department of Transportation crews had planned to close northbound I-15 from 5300 South to 600 North, southbound I-15 from 1000 North to 2100 South. They will remain open this weekend.
So will the southbound on-ramps at 400 and 600 South.
However, the southbound on-ramp at 500 South, which was scheduled to open, will remain closed.
UDOT says to make up for the lost weekend, they may have to do the closures over Easter weekend.
The good news is, this weekend's delays will not push back the projected I-15 completion date of May 15.
Weekend overnight freeway closures originally were scheduled for:
-
April 27-30
- May 4-7
- May 11-14
