Water Facts

  • Salt Lake area water users consume an average of 100,000 acre feet of water each year.

  • During the summer, 40% to 50% of that water is used for irrigation needs.

  • During the summer, area users consume 210-million to 220-million gallons of water a day (comparison: an olympic size swimming pool holds 1 million gallons).

  • A typical family uses 500 gallons of water inside the home, per day.

  • Crews typically use 100 gallons of water per minute to battle a house fire.

  • Crews can use upwards of 400,000 gallons of water per minute to fight a large commercial structure fire.
