Fireworks Restrictions

Many cities and counties have limited the use of fireworks heading into the Fourth of July.

Here are the restrictions that have been reported to KSL. It is not a complete list for the entire state. For areas not mentioned here, check with your city or county fire marshal.

Salt Lake County

  • West of Bangerter Highway, Riverton
  • City of Herriman
  • Draper: South of Highland Dr., East of 1700 East to Pioneer Rd., then all remaining area south and east of Pioneer Rd.
  • East of Wasatch
  • West of Highway 111
  • South of Highland in Draper
  • South of 134th South in Riverton
Salt Lake City
  • East of I-215 to 2100 South, then east to Wasatch Drive, then north to Sunnyside Avenue
  • East of Arapeen Drive from Sunnyside Avenue to Wakara Way
  • East of a line projected from Arapeen and Wakara Way to Wasatch Drive and South Campus Drive
  • East of Wasatch Drive to North Campus Drive
  • East of Virginia St. (1300 E.) from South Temple to 11th Ave.
  • North of 11th Ave. to City Creek Canyon. Both sides of City Creek Canyon
  • From the west side of City Creek Canyon, all areas north of 500 North to 200 West, north on 200 West to Wall Street, along Wall until it intersects with Beck Street, then north to the north City limits
  • West of I-215 in Salt Lake City
Elk Ridge
    New:
  • Fireworks banned in all of Elk Ridge.
Utah County
  • Fireworks and open fires banned on undeveloped wildland areas in the unincorporated portions of Utah County.
Provo City
  • Fireworks banned in all undeveloped wildlands, canyons, and foothill areas, effective Friday, June 29

Ogden, So. Ogden, North View, Weber County

  • South county line, east of SR89 to Harrison
  • East of Harrison to Mountain Rd.
  • East of Mountain Rd. north to 3300 North
  • North of 3300 North to the Ogden Brigham Canal
  • North of the Ogden Brigham Canal to 1350 West
  • West of 1350 West to Pleasant View Dr.
  • North of Pleasant View Dr. to the north county line
    (restrictions in place until Oct. 1)

Cache County

  • Fireworks and fires banned in all unincorporated areas of Cache County.
Logan City
  • South and east from 4th North and 1400 East
  • North and east from 4th North and 1700 East
BLM

The Bureau of Land Management says: "Increasing fire danger has resulted in a State I fire restriction order for a large portion of the state. The fire restriction prohibits the use of fireworks, as well as open fires or camp fires except in a developed recreation site. Smoking is also prohibited except in an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or in an area which has been cleared of all flammable materials. The use of propane stoves is not prohibited.

The fire restriction takes effect at 12:01 a.m., July 2, 2001 and will remain in effect until rescinded."

The ban includes these areas:

  • Private, state and federal lands in Cache, Rich, Box Elder, Weber, Davis, Morgan, Tooele, Summit, Wasatch and Utah counties, except Manti La Sal National Forest lands in Utah County.

  • Lands of the Wasatch/Cache, Uinta and Ashley National Forests located in Salt Lake, Daggett, Unitah and Duchesne counties, excepting the High Uinta Wilderness Area.
Fireworks are never allowed on federal public land or national parks.
