Low-Income Scholarships

Jan. 22, 2001-- A few hundred low-income students could soon get scholarships to the private schools of their choice.

The scholarships are open to Utah students attending kindergarten through eighth grade.

The sponsors are a group of Utah business leaders who believe low-income parents should have choices besides public school for their children.

Jordan Clements/Children First Utah: "WE BELIEVE IF THEIR PARENTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SELECT THE BEST SCHOOL FOR THAT PARTICULAR CHILD, THAT IT WILL PROVIDE HOPE AND OPPORTUNITY FOR THOSE CHILDREN FOR THEIR FUTURE."

Children First Utah is accepting applications from students who qualify for free or reduced lunch.

They'll select 200 winners from a scholarship lottery in March.
