Student Movie

One of the next Hollywood movie makers may have already started his career in high school here in Utah. Education Specialist Nadine Wimmer attended his movie premiere.

No celebrities posed, no cameras flashed. But it had all the makings of a big screen debut.

A Clearfield High student is getting rave reviews for his movie based on a school fighting off invaders from a rival school.

Issac Goeckeritz/Student Movie Director: "MY HISTORY TEACHER LET ME SUBSTITUTE VIDEOS FOR ESSAYS IN NINTH GRADE."

"PEOPLE THAT DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU SAY, GOOD MOVIE. AND YOU SAY THANKS AND WALK OFF."

The movie plays off of Star Wars, and like Director George Lucas, Goeckeritz and his recruits paid painstaking attention to special effects.

Dan Taylor/Student: "YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH FRAME BY FRAME, THIRTY TO SIXTY FRAMES IN A TWO-SECOND CLIP AND EDIT THEM."

Byran Zaugg/Student: "WE WANTED SOMETHING THAT THEY WOULD WANT TO SEE EVEN MORE, SOMETHING THEY COULD PUT IN THEIR VIDEO COLLECTION, THIS IS A COOL MOVIE, NOT LIKE A HOME MOVIE, BUT SOMETHING THEY'D PUT NEXT TO THEIR DISNEY COLLECTION."

Nadine Wimmer, Eyewitness News: "WHAT'S ALMOST AS AMAZING, IS TECHNOLOGY HAS ALLOWED A FEW HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO MAKE A FULL-FLEDGED MOVIE USING JUST A FEW THINGS, A DIGITAL CAMERA, A FEW TAPES AND A COMPUTER."

Susan Major/Student Advisor: "DOWN THE ROAD THEY'RE GOING TO SAY, AH, I KNEW THOSE KIDS WHEN THEY WERE IN HIGH SCHOOL. I SAW THEM MAKING THEIR FIRST MOVIE. I REALLY EXPECT TO SEE THAT DOWN THE ROAD."

Down the road, he sees film school, an original script, maybe the Sundance Film Festival.

"THIS IS JUST SOMETHING BIG THAT I'VE WORKED ON SO LONG THAT IT MAKES ME WANT TO DO IT AGAIN."

Perhaps then, audiences will be buying tickets to see his work.

Teachers were also impressed that this student/director involved many classmates to produce, edit and star in the movie.
