Detectives Need Help Identifying Woman's Remains

Jan. 3, 2001-- Salt Lake County Detectives hope some innovative investigative work will help them crack a difficult case.

Three months ago, bird hunters found the skeletal remains of a young woman on the edge of the Great Salt Lake. Now, investigators think a clay model will jog someone's memory.

Twenty-six bones of a female skeleton were unearthed from a shallow grave October 9th. Investigators had no clues other than the bones.

A forensics expert started working with the jaw and skull bones and came up with a clay bust. They believe it is a good likeness.

Here's what they know about the woman. She was approximately five feet tall, petite, and in her late teens. She died about two years ago.

Detectives aren't sure if this is a homicide. It could be a murder, or a drug overdose, or any number of other things.

If you recognize this woman or know anything about her call the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Department at
(801) 973-7000 or (801) 743-5826.
