Energy Saving Tips

  • Demand for power peaks when the temperature rises. It's also in greatest demand from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday.

  • Avoid laundry, dishwashing, etc. during peak hours.

  • Prepare meals by microwave rather than stove.

  • Do consecutive loads of laundry to take advantage of residual heat in the dryer.

  • Install a programmable thermostat. Turn it up around 78 degrees in the summer, lower 60's in the winter.

  • Turn off any unneeded lights, computers, copiers, appliances

  • Close blinds, particularly on windows that face south and west.

  • Consider insulating, caulking, weather stripping.

  • Consider installing new windows in older homes.

Heating and cooling generally are the home's highest energy costs.
