That's the word from the governor today--as he kicks off a statewide energy conservation initiative.
We can thank California for all of the new-found focus on energy.

Utah is trying to avoid any of the blackouts or other problems they've suffered there--and trying to save money as well.
With that in mind--the Governor today launched a new statewide energy conservation campaign.
It's called the "PowerForward" Alert System.
And it'll work very similar to the green, yellow and red burn days--we have for air quality.
Instead--we'll have green, yellow and red power alert days.
Green means normal conservation recommended--red means conservation is absolutely critical.
And yellow days--signal a strong need for conservation.
Those days are like today--when the temperature exceeds 96 degrees--and wholesale prices are $200 per megawatt hour or higher.
On yellow days--the state is urging you--to reduce use between 2 PM and 8 PM.
Gov. Mike Leavitt: "Typically a yellow stage will come when we have 96 degrees or greater. We need to avoid electric use during peak period. again, peak period 2:00 to 8:00. We need to turn off all unnecessary appliances. We need to turn off air conditioning when we're not at home."
Leavitt says this conservation effort should save money, save power--and increase reliability. The governor says we can expect to have about 25 yellow alert days this summer--and perhaps three or four red alert days.
