Utah's gas prices are rising, just as the national average is dropping.
A new survey by AAA shows Utahns paid an average of $1.61 a gallon for regular, unleaded gasoline last month. That's up 2 cents from April.
By comparison, the national average price dropped 4.8 cents to $1.66.
That's still 5cents higher than the Utah average.
"Last spring Utah had the second-lowest price of gasoline in the country," said AAA Utah spokeswoman Rolayne Fairclough. "Now it has the 16th-lowest price."
While the state average was rising, Salt Lake City area motorists were catching a break with an average price of $1.54, four cents lower than a month ago.
Orem had the lowest average price of gas -- at $1.53.
As usual, Moab had the most expensive gas in Utah at $1.83, a 13-cent hike since last month.
