Pew Internet and American Life Project

The report by the Pew Internet and American Life Project finds 29 percent of adult Internet users say they've downloaded music. That's up from 22 percent last summer.

The study also says the number of Americans downloading music on a typical day is the equal to those looking for health and travel information. And it's twice that of those making retail purchases.

The increase may be due partially to legal problems for the popular music-swapping service Napster. The study says the amount of downloading "closely tracked" the Napster court case.
