Healthiest City For Women
Is In Utah
Lists: 10 Best, 10 Worst Places
Oct. 3, 2000
A new survey from a popular women's magazine ranks a Utah city as the healthiest place to live for women in America.
Self Magazine, a health publication geared towards women, ranks Provo at the top of the list.
And it's number one for a variety of reasons.
The magazine hired an independent consultant to look at 24 health-related aspects across the country, such as disease rates, environment, health care, and exercise availability.
While is says Provo isn't perfect, it scored the best overall.
The article credits much of Provo's health benefits to the influence of the L.D.S. Church in Provo, and church guidelines, such as no smoking, drinking or drugs.
But it cites other reasons:
- Low disease rate
- Clean water
- Low unemployment
- Below average risk of a fatal car crash
While living in Provo appears to have health benefits, the study says it's still up to individual women to take advantage of a healthy atmosphere.
By the way, the Salt Lake City-Ogden area ranked 33rd healthiest in the study.
