Triad Shooting: Anne Sleater Dies

_ Anne Sleater, the 30-year-old AT&T employee shot in the head as she worked at Triad Center, died Friday afternoon.

LDS Hospital spokesman Jess Gomez says Sleater passed away at 2:50 p.m. Immediately after the shooting on January 14, Sleater was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition. She never emerged from critical condition in the eight days after she was shot.

The woman accused of the shooting remains in jail. Police say De-Kieu Duy was trying to get into KSL's newsroom in the Triad Center and was threatening to kill someone there. However, she ended up on the 4th floor of the office building, where she shot Sleater before two AT&T Wireless Services employees tackled her.

The building manager also was wounded.

The Salt Lake District Attorney's office says it will now file aggravated homicide and capitol murder charges against Duy, in addition to the charges she already faces.

Sleater, who had recently returned to her position as human-resources director at AT&T Wireless Services after maternity leave, was interviewing a new employee part way through his first day on the job.

Leigh von der Esch, the director of the Utah Film Commission, where Mr. Sleater is employed as production-services director, said the couple have a lot of friends who were pulling for Anne to come through. The couple have a 6-month-old daughter.

AT&T established the Anne Sleater Fund at Bank One to assist her family with expenses. Donations can be made at any Bank One branch.
