Ski Resorts Love Latest Storm

List of Resorts Closing Dates

(4/9/99)

When the snow started to fall, many skiers headed into the mountains.

Two weeks ago, the season was winding down.

Now, they're saying it's as good as it gets. News Specialist Jed Boal has the story.

This is the storm Utah ski resorts expected a month ago. But, you can hardly say...too little, too late.

Amber Borowski, of Snowbird public relations says, "I think Mother Natures's played a trick on us. These are the best conditions all year. We currently have a base depth of 117-inches, the best depth we've been looking at."

The Utah Ski Association describes the season as average...or flat. Several resorts are already closed, others are slated to shut down this weekend and next.

But, a blizzard of business could change their plans. Snowbird will run the tram on weekends as long as the snow holds up.

Snowboarder Brad Chandler says, "It's awsome. We've had some snow every day in April. Some face shots today, so can't complain."

The powder is starting to pile up. Which means great conditions as long as you can see. Good news for locals and those who come to play in the greatest snow on earth.

Janie Daly is a skier from Florida. "We didn't know we'd luck out like this. We come out each year and usually get a little snow, but, this is a nice surprise."

It caught several resorts by surprise. But, late season skiers can get their runs in, before they store their boards.
