Proposed Change in Graduation Requirements
Utah State School Superintendent, Dr. Scott Bean, recommends increasing the amount of time Utah students spend in school. That would also change the requirements for graduation.
The proposal says, in part, "If increased time is provided for students, basic literacy competency and high school graduation requirements should include 28-30 courses for which the student has demonstrated competency. Following are the recommended requirements:"
Three international languages: Be able to speak and read the foreign languages
Two fine arts courses
Two applied technology courses
Four language arts courses
Three mathematics courses
Three science courses
Three social studies courses
Two responsible healthy lifestyle courses
