Product Recalls
Two product recalls were announced today -- on glass candle holders from Pier 1 Imports that can unexpectedly shatter, and on Toyota's sub-compact Echo models.

Toyota Recall

(Tokyo-AP) -- Toyota is announcing a big recall.

The automaker is recalling more than 397-thousand sub-compact and mini-car vehicles exported to the U-S, Europe and Canada, citing faulty brake pipes.

More Information

A Toyota spokeswoman says the faulty design of the rear brake pipe might cause brake oil to leak when driving in snow.

She says the company's gotten no reports of related accidents.

The recall includes more than 48-thousand Echo minicars sold in the U-S and Canada. They were made between July 2001 and April 2002.

Candle Holder Recall

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Pier 1 Imports, of Fort Worth, Texas, is voluntarily recalling about 9,200 candleholders. The Giant Champagne Glass-Shaped Floating Candleholder is made of mouth-blown recycled glass and is intended for use with floating candles. The candleholder can unexpectedly shatter and cause cuts to consumers.

More Information

Pier 1 has received two reports of the glass candleholder shattering. No injuries have been reported.

The recalled Giant Champagne Glass-Shaped Floating Candleholder is about 17 1/4-inches high by 13-inches in diameter. The green candleholders were made in Spain. The price sticker on the bottom of the candleholder reads "SKU#1884160."

Pier 1 Imports sold the candleholders through their retail stores and on-line nationwide from January 2002 through May 2002 for about $25.
