Watchdog Group Finds Recall in Recall Process

Consumers hear about them all the time: child-safey recalls. But, now a consumer watchdog group says they've found a recall in the recall process.

The group says after reviewing more than 500 recalls over the last decade, they've found one in five information hotline numbers provided parents with little or no information.

Mary Ellen Fise/Consumer Federation of America - "What we unearth is really a startling disconnect between the recall hotline and what the companies are actually doing."

Watchdog groups are also pushing the Consumer Products Safety Commission to extend recalls indefinitely. Right now, companies are only required to operate information hotlines for two years. So, the group set up its own website listing child products recalled in the last decade. It gives the reasons why and what parents can do.
