Utahns Help India Quake Victims

The world is reaching out to the people of India following last week's devastating 7.9 magnitude earthquake.

With each passing hour the chances of finding more survivors dwindles. But for those who did survive, hope is on the way, in the form of food, clothing, and even prayers.

Representatives of the LDS Church are loading up supplies to send to India. In fact some of the supplies, like food and clothing, are already there.

The American Red Cross is jump starting the relief effort with a lot of donated money, but it can always use more, and is asking us all to dig a little deeper.

Susan Sheehan/American Red Cross, Salt Lake City: "IT'S 50 DEGREES THERE AT NIGHT AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT PEOPLE THERE HAVE SHELTER AND THEY DON'T SUFFER FURTHER HARM. SO CASH TO SUPPORT GETTING THAT TYPE OF MATERIAL THERE AT THIS TIME IS WHAT WE'RE ASKING FOR."

Cash to also help pay for basic life necessities like food, water, and clothing.

Across town at the Bishop's Storehouse, members of the LDS Church are loading up 600,000 pounds of supplies.

One container went out Monday night, the other five over the next few days.

Kent Hinckley/Dir., Bishops' Storehouse Services: "THERE ARE PEOPLE IN NEED. THERE ARE PEOPLE THAT ARE HURTING AND WE HAVE THE RESOURCES AND THE COMMODITIES TO HELP THESE PEOPLE TO RELIEVE THEIR SUFFERING."
