Personalized Jack-O-Lantern This is the time of year we start carving pumpkins for the front porch. So, are you still doing the basic jack-o-lantern look...with the triangle eyes? Why not go high-tech instead! Keith McCord shows us how. Yep, it really is me on the side of a pumpkin-- but it took several steps to get there! Meet Bob Wilson. He's always enjoyed carving pumpkins. A few years ago, he decided he wanted to do something other than the traditional jack-o-lantern. Something more personal. He came up with a computer program called "Me on a pumpkin." Today, he put...well...*me* on one! WILSON: "ANYTHING THAT CAN BE PHOTOGRAPHED. IT'S CLICK AND DRAG. ANYTHING THAT CAN BE PHOTOGRAPHED." He took my photograph, scanned it into his computer, and then, with a key stroke here and there, he created a stencil showing a reverse image of me. He then tapes the stencil to the side of a pumpkin. WILSON: "SO WHAT I LIKE TO DO AT THAT POINT IS GET IT COMFORTABLE IN MY LAP. GET IT UP AND FACING ME...AND I JUST START WITH THE SMALLER AREAS." It's basically carve by the dots! A little hole here, a small cut there. After about 15 minutes the image starts to take shape. You can get as simple or detailed as you want. WILSON: "AND NOW YOU'RE NOT BOUND BY THE TYPICAL STENCILS, OR THE TRUE TRIANGLE EYES, AND THE SMILE, AND THE LITTLE TRIANGLE NOSE...THE TYPICAL PUMPKIN THING, NOW YOU CAN GET REAL ELABORATE." Okay, here I am. Based on the photo I gave him, not bad! Should look good on my front porch! Wilson markets "Me on a Pumpkin" on the internet, and places the CD's in grocery stores right next to the big piles of pumpkins! KEITH MCCORD, EYEWITNESS NEWS: :THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE CD SAY YOU CAN CARVE PICTURES OF YOUR CARS, PETS, MOTHER-IN-LAW, EVEN YOUR FAVORITE TV ANCHORMAN. BOY IS THAT SCARY OR WHAT?
