We all like to be pampered every now and again, and so do our beloved pets.
A new business just opened up in Salt Lake
--one that's devoted to giving your pooch the royal treatment
while you're away.
News Specialist John Daley has the story.
When you go away, you're lucky if you stay in a hotel room this nice.
At the Little Dogs Resort and Salon, it's a dog's life indeed.
Besides a room to get the fur done, there's Victorian furniture on which to rest one's paws.
Also, music, including a two-hour nap time to classical tunes;
videos, like "White Fang" and "101 Dalmations"; reading material for inquiring minds; and fine cuisine served with a silver spoon.
It's five-star treatment alright, designed to be an alternative to the lonely wire cages of a kennel, but only for dogs under 30 pounds.
Melva Kravitz/Little Dogs Resort & Salon: "THESE LITTLE DOGS ARE PEOPLE'S CHILDREN. THAT'S THE WAY JENNIFER AND I TREAT DOGS AND SO WE WANTED A PLACE WHERE PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE THE SAME THING CAN BRING THEIR ANIMALS IN."
Melva and daughter Jennifer left professional careers to start this business.
The idea: provide customers with boarding, grooming and daycare for their doggies and make it as comfortable as possible.
Jennifer Kravitz/Little Dogs Resort & Salon: "Q: THE VICTORIAN FURNITURE, IT'S OKAY TO SIT ON? A: THE VICTORIAN DECOR AND FURNITURE IS SO THEY CAN SIT COMFORTABLY AND THE LITTLE GUYS CAN STILL DO THEIR BUSINESS, BUT IT WON'T GET ON THE UPHOSTERY."
Customers, like the Kunz family, say they're pleased.
They went on a 10-day vacation and think their dog Quincy would rather stay here than at a kennel where there's less human contact.
Diane Kunz/Dog Owner: "OH GEEZ, WHAT'S HAPPENING TO ME. I'M STUCK IN A CRATE FOR 10 DAYS, NOBODY'S COMING TO PLAY WITH ME OR PET ME."
All this may seem like the tail wagging the dog, but the owners insist "A happy dog is a happy dog."
Melva Kravitz/Little Dogs Resort & Salon: "OUR MOTTO IS YOUR DOG KNOWS THE DIFFERENCE AND WE BELIEVE THEY DO."
The company offers free tours.
