Call For Volunteers

It's been one week since the Salt Lake Organizing Committee put out the call for volunteers. There were ads in the papers. And after our story aired Sunday night, SLOC's website got 30,000 hits.

But, did they get enough voluteers who want to "work hard, for long hours and no pay"? SLOC says they have about 6,000 applications in process for 8,000 positions.

Shelley Thomas, SLOC V.P. of Communications: "We're feeling great about it, but again we don't want to disscourage anybody from applying because there still will be some positions they likely will be matched to for the games."

The application deadline for this winter's test events is December 4th, but Thomas says they'll continue to take applications for volunteer positions at SLOC.

And the main volunteer push will be in the year 2000 when they'll recruit 18,000 volunteers.

If you want to sign up, you can do it on the Internet at www.slc2002.org, or by phone at 212-2002.
