Another shakeup in the Salt Lake Olympic organization today as a top-ranking official steps down.
Shelley Thomas resigned today as Senior Vice President of Commuications and Public Affairs.
She assumed that post in the fall of 1997, and weathered the toughest days--so far--of the Olympic bribery scandal.
In an e-mail to fellow staffers, Thomas said she was leaving for "personal reasons" and that she wants to "explore new professional horizons."
Regarding the scandal, she wrote: "We were in some rough waters and the boat almost overturned. But SLOC is stronger than ever."
SLOC President Mitt Romney issued a statement saying, "She was the consummate professional, seeing us through some difficult times. Her personal commitment and dedication helped restore SLOC's image in this communty."
Her resignation takes effect on Friday.
