Olympic License Plates

May 18, 2000

A Utah Olympian is urging folks to buy Olympic license plates. It's part of a campaign called "Drive Home the Dream"--and children will be the prime beneficiaries. News Specialist John Daley has details.

We've all seen the Olympic license plates--perhaps you have one on your car. What you may have forgotten is that $15 out of the annual $22 fee goes to a program that will provide tickets to the Olympics for youngsters in Utah.

Today, Salt Lake Olympic athlete Denise Parker bought a new Olympic license plate at the DMV, and the President of Salt Lake's Organizing Committee helped attach it to her car.

Roughly 45,000 of these license plates have been sold over the past two years, generating more than $1-million in revenues for the Olympic for Youth and Children Fund.

Parker, an Olympic archer who won a bronze medal in 1988, says the program is a good thing.

By the way KSL TV and KSL Radio are sponsors of this campaign. If you want to order a plate, call 1-800-DMV-UTAH.
