The Justice Department announced today it doesn't plan to seek indictments against the Salt Lake Olympic Organizing Committee in the bidding scandal.
That applies to both the 1998 and 2002 bid efforts.
In a video conference, SLOC president Mitt Romney says the decision was a substantial and symbolic victory.
Mitt Romney/SLOC President: "WHILE THERE MAY HAVE BEEN SOME INDIVIDUAL ERRORS OF SOME SIGNIFICANCE, THAT THE BID SCANDAL IS NOT AN INDICTMENT OF THE ORGANIZING COMMITTEE OR OUR COMMUNITY OR THE PEOPLE OF OUR COUNTRY. INSTEAD IT RELATES TO THE FAILING OF A FEW INDIVIDUALS."
The Justice Department says the decision applies only to the organization, not to any present or former officers.
To date, three people have been indicted in connection with the scandal.
