Details of Rockreation & Color Me Mine
(4/30/99)
School will be out in a little over a month.
What will you do to keep your kids busy?
The daily trip to the park or the swimming pool may not cut it for today's
active children.
News Specialst Lisa Conley begins a series of reports on the best ways to
entertain your 'Summer Kids.'
First stop, Rockreation in Murray.
An indoor version of Utah's great outdoors.
You'll find a lot of serious rock climbers here scaling 42 foot walls, but
that didn't intimidate my little rock climbers--Spencer and Mason.
My biggest problem was getting them in the special climbing shoes.
Our rock climbing expert, Tessie, got them harnessed up, and they were ready
to conquer the kid's wall.
The walls are designed with animal grips to reach for. The Rockcreation crew
will even hide candy bars up high to encourage them to climb higher.
My kids had fun learning the basics of climbing, and the importance of
safety gear.
Next, we decided to try something a little less active--painting your own
pottery at the Color Me Mine studio.
The kids picked out a piece of unfinished pottery, chose their paint colors,
grabbed the brushes, and went to work.
They actually stayed busy for a long time without getting bored...music to
any parents ears.
Maria Millet, the owner of Color Me Mine, says, "It's a lot of fun for them
because they walk away with something tangible. It's an original piece. And
it's timelined, so when they get older they can look back and say I did that
when I was four."
